Food Drive Raises in Excess of $10,000
We recently sponsored a drive that raised $10,625 and collected in excess of 1,500 pounds of food for food pantries in Arena, Barneveld, Mazomanie and Spring Green.
This Community Food Drive initiative included a “Jean Day” program, which encouraged members of our staff to donate $5.00 for each day that they wore blue jeans to work. During the past four years, our employees raised more than $4,275 for local charities through these “Jean Days”.
We also matched your cash donations up to $1,000 combined across all locations. And, those of you who contributed $5 or more in cash or 3 or more canned/dry goods were eligible to enter a drawing for a $100 gift card to be given at each of our five locations.
Here are the five gift card winners who were drawn on completion of the food drive:

About the Local Food Pantries
There are food pantries in Arena, Barneveld, Mazomanie and Spring Green; and in several other communities within Iowa, Dane, and Sauk Counties. All of the pantries are free and all disburse supplies to anyone in the community having need. Use of the pantry by those in need is confidential.
Preparing Yourself and Your Family for Unfortunate Personal Loss
When the time comes to deal with personal loss, it pays to be ready. While having a solid will in place is important, there are other considerations to ensure your family’s financial affairs are cared for. Here are some of the tools available for you and your family to consider:
- A will provides clear, legally binding instructions about what happens with your money and possessions after you die. Without a valid will or living trust, your state’s laws determine where your property goes after you die. Simply telling relatives what you want to happen isn’t enough.
- A living trust (or revocable living trust) helps your survivors avoid probate, the court process used to pay debts and distribute property to heirs. Some living trusts reduce taxes or protect financial privacy. Consider a living trust, in addition to a will, if your estate is valuable.
- A living will (or advance medical directive) tells your family what to do if you’re incapacitated or terminally ill. This is the document you need if you don’t want to be kept on life support.
- With a durable power of attorney, you can appoint somebody you trust to take care of your financial affairs when you can’t. Without, the family would be unable to pay your bills, cancel unused credit cards and more.
- Life insurance is important if anyone (such as your spouse or children) depends on your income. For most, term life insurance is best. How much? There’s no hard and fast rule, but your policy should provide enough for your survivors to cover immediate expenses and meet financial goals.
- Though often overlooked, disability insurance is also vital. You’re far more likely to become disabled than to die prematurely, and the loss of income is just as real. If you and your family need your salary to live on, you should have disability insurance.
- There’s also long-term care insurance, which covers the potential costs of a nursing home or assisted-living facility.
- Lastly, it is vital to have a master document with all the info your family will need to take care of your affairs. This should include account locations, numbers and passwords, emergency contacts, final arrangements, and so on. You can request a set of free planning documents via our Investment Center.
Estate planning isn’t over once you create the initial documents. When you experience any major life change—you get married or divorced, have children, move to another state or change careers—review your will and other documents to be sure they’re still valid and reflect your intentions.
